DIY ‘Hey Baby’ Thumb Tack Artwork with Free Printable Template
What do you get a family that is so dang cute and hip when they have their third baby? There are so many cool baby wearables, gadgets and gizmos these days. It’s a little overwhelming. By the time you have your third kid, you either have everything you need already, or you don’t have anything because you gave it all away thinking you were done having kids!
My next-door neighbors are the cute, hip family I’m speaking of. Their other two kids are toddlers, so I think they probably have most of the “baby must-haves” still. That’s why I wanted to make them something homemade and from the heart like this DIY ‘Hey Baby’ Thumb Tack Artwork with Free Printable Template. Not only is it easy to make, but its cute and hip too, just like them.
The artwork was a big hit with my neighbors, but my latest children’s book that I wrote with my mom, Tumbleweed Tina Cleans Her Room, was an even bigger hit! I put together some gifts for the Big Sister and Big Brother so they wouldn’t feel left out that included my book, some easy toddler crafts and bubbles. You can check out all my children books {HERE}. Let’s get started!

What you will need:
- Canvas (I used a 12×12)
- Gold thumb tacks (I used around 300)
- Scissors
- DIY ‘Hey Baby’ Thumb Tack Artwork Template
- Glue stick
- Stapler
- Funky ribbon
- Fun scrapbooking paper
Instructions:
1. Print your “Hey Baby” Template (click on pic below to print) or type up a cute phrase in a thick bold font then print.
2. Cut out your word phrase.
3. Figure out your word placement then glue down.
4. Now for the fun part, or tedious part depending on how you look at it, start inserting the thumb tacks over the paper template directly into the canvas. Make sure you overlap the thumb tacks. If you have too much space, just pull out the thumb tacks and re-insert tighter. This is a trial-by-error process. Remember, art is not perfect :).
5. Once all your thumb tacks are inserted, flip your art work over. See all the sharp, pointy ends of your tacks? Time to cover them up with some fun scrapbooking paper. Just staple your paper all along the edge of the back of the canvas.
6. Next, staple some funky ribbon to the top, back of your artwork to hang it by.
You’re done. You’ve now created a cool, hip piece of artwork for what will most definitely be the coolest baby on the block! Enjoy!
